Guide To Cisco Cloud Computing

Basics & Benefits Of Cisco Cloud Computing

No one disagrees now that cloud computing is the future, and neither is there any debate about how this bodes well for Cisco cloud computing. But let’s put aside the compliments and try to gain some understanding of the cloud. That might in turn help shed some light on Cisco’s vision and why it just might come true.

Instead of having to store, install and compute everything locally, computing on the cloud uses the internet to offer shared resources, software, etc. On demand to users. A very basic example would be storing images on flickr (or videos on youtube) which can then be accessed via the internet. Online spreadsheet applications that need only a browser are also a good example.

As state above, all of this is on a very base level, and this isn’t what is causing the buzz. The real buzz is about being able to move entire IT setups with software and security on an enterprise level to the cloud. Users simply access resources that are virtualized and provided on demand from the cloud.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out the huge benefits. First, since everything has been moved into the cloud, the company’s large IT infrastructure can be dismantled and there’s no need for servers, space, staff and local security. Plus, the company can now tap into the massive computing power of a data center – something that was previously impossible for all but a handful of corporate behemoths.

Speaking of corporate behemoths, let’s get down to Cisco cloud computing and what it has to offer. Without geeking out, let’s just say that Cisco can build enterprise clouds fast and cheap (relatively speaking). A company looking for a data center where the resources can be virtualized and shared among multiple clients should head straight for Cisco.

This is not so hard to understand, but it may be a bit confusing for some. So let’s try to make the whole cloud thing as easy as possible – There’s a public cloud out there, and companies can use its resources on demand, much like power consumption off an electrical grid network. A company can also opt to use or build a private cloud that can be shared among multiple customers, which is where Cisco comes in.

This concept and Cisco’s vision for what’s going to happen in this field is linked to their core business, which is networking products and solutions. Cisco thinks there’s going to be a huge boom in marketplace clouds. They want to be offer interoperability between these clouds with Cisco networks as the enablers
