Recently, we sat down with Origany, inc. founder – Raj Sardesh

We are a company that prides itself as one that is focusing on environmentally conscious clothing and accessories made from organic cotton and other eco-friendly materials. We call it “Clothing Made Organic by Nature.”

Origany founder and parent himself, Raj holds a belief that today’s parents view their environment as well as fashion in a “green” context. Green has become the new black! To be Green, parents feel that they do not need to, nor do they want to, give up on the colors, the designs or the super soft feel of the clothes they are used to putting on their kids. To appeal to this discerning audience, we made a conscious decision to create designs for our clothing for babies and toddlers that are sophisticated and super soft to touch.

Origany baby clothes (0-24 months) are ideal for babies to play in, are super soft and made with 100% certified organic cotton. Origany baby garments are made India from 100% organic cotton grown in India. Our colored apparel is made with low-impact eco-friendly dyes that minimizes the environmental impact. Of course, all natural color garments contain no dyes.

What is your favorite part of a typical day?

Either first thing in the morning or late in the afternoon when I am all energized and want to get things done via e-mail such as working with suppliers in India and Peru, our designer in India or distributor in Canada.

Which part of your job would you gladly give up?

Logistics and fulfillment of my line. I am about to outsource it in the U.S. (I already have in Canada) as I am really not good at it.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

Don’t go after money but keep doing what you enjoy doing and the money will come to you (from my mother)

What keeps you up at night?

Anxiety of failing

How do you balance business and family?

It is hard but since I work from home I have the flexibility to pick to my daughter from school every afternoon.

What is your great extravagance?

International travel

What is your most treasured possession?

No treasured possessions except memories of my travel and photo albums of my family, including my daughter and my parents

What talent would you most like to have?

Sewing

If you could have a drink with anyone (living or dead), who would it be?

Someone who has had a very broad impact on society. Recently visited the Luther Burbank Home and Gardens in Santa Rosa and was fascinated by how much impact he had on the society with all the horticulture work he did over his lifespan. And he was not even college educated!

What is new at Origany?

Brand new organic clothing line for toddler boys and new organic collection for babies and toddler girls coming in Fall 2010.  Some great designs as well as a complete line that is ready for larger stores and boutiques alike.
